For the most part no. The treatment is relatively painless. Some areas such as the eye area can hurt slightly but not enough to need a local anaesthetic
  • 4.5 mm target tissue (when used on the face): subcutis use: lower / middle cheek area, chin contour, double chin
  • 3.0 mm target tissue (when used on the face): subcutis / dermis insert: cheek area, chin contour, double chin, forehead, neck, décolleté
  • 1.5 mm target tissue (when used on the face): Dermis use: lip contour, eye area, forehead. Can also be used for a second, more superficial passage on the neck and décolleté
Generally speaking, one treatment is enough. If you have an older skin, a 2nd treatment may be advisable after about 6-8 weeks. In most cases, a 2nd treatment is only done after about 8 months.

The treatment has hardly any side effects when done correctly.
Immediate side effects may include erythema and slight swelling which usually goes away within a few hours.
In the following days, a muscle-ache-like sensation can develop, which can last from a few days to about 3 weeks. A temporary, occasional “pressure pain” or a feeling of numbness in some areas, which, however, wears off after a few days, is not uncommon. 

There is no downtime after the treatment, but in the days after the treatment stressful factors such as strong sun exposure, using a sauna, use of a swimming pool, use of essential oils or irritating home care products should be avoided and sun protection product should be used. Taking high doses of anti-inflammatory (pain) medication (e.g. ibuprofen, diclofenac) should also be avoided.
HIFU Therapy treats the deep foundational layer addressed in cosmetic surgery but won’t duplicate the results of a facelift. It is a great alternative, especially if you do not want to go under the knife.
HIFU uses sound energy, ultrasound, which has unique properties that allow it to bypass the surface of the skin to treat depths not matched by any other non-invasive cosmetic device. HIFU stimulates collagen production in the skin’s foundation, resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over the following 2-3 months. Lasers rely on light energy, which cannot reach deeper skin layers at an optimal temperature, so laser treatments typically only treat superficial skin. Since the two technologies often treat different types of skin issues, they’re actually very compatible and can be combined.
